I’m no meteorologist, but I know it’s hot. And once it gets hot, it’s bound to stay that way past Labor Day. Now is the time for fans, air conditioners, cold water, and paying special attention to our elderly neighbors.
Jesus told everyone, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?” (Luke 12:54-56).
As much as the people of His day needed rain or relief from the heat, the most pressing need was relief from the burden of sin. Jesus came to provide it. Yet few recognized either that need or Jesus as the solution. Do we?
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us.
We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God…Behold now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 5:20-21, 6:2).
What we need most this summer—and always—is Jesus. He Himself urges us to believe in Him (John 8:24), to repent of our sins (Luke 13:3,5), to confess faith in Him (Matthew 10:32-33), to be baptized for salvation (Mark 16:15-16), and to live life in His service (Matthew 25:14-46).
Do not labor through another summer or another day alienated from God. We’ll gladly help you find the relief that Jesus brings!
