Mary was pregnant, and history was, too! Though pinpointing the birth of Jesus to the month and day is impossible, the timing of His arrival was no accident. “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons” (Galatians 4:4). Christ came to earth at just the right time, when human language, governments and hearts were plump for the turning point in God’s plan to save people.
In Jesus, God became a man. As a man, Jesus lived a sinless life and died a selfless death. Now through faith in Christ Jesus, we all can become children of God (Gal. 3:26). “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Gal. 3:27). God’s faithful children will inherit every blessing that Christ has to give (Gal. 4:7).
Now we anticipate the day when Jesus will come again. “And just as it is appointed to man to die once, and after this comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him” (Hebrews 9:27). We cannot know when Jesus is coming (Matthew 24:36, 1 Thessalonians. 5:2, 2 Peter 3:9), but when He comes we will definitely know it (Revelation 1:7). It will be the most joyful day for those who have put on Christ and eagerly waited for Him. It will be the day of most bitter sorrow for those who have not.
In God’s plan, the time will be just right. Will you be ready to welcome Jesus? Will Jesus welcome you?
