God has been gracious to America. The monumental efforts of our government and the sacrifices made by thousands of brave men and women have been blessed by the passing of 13 years without another day like September 11, 2001. We hope that we will never see another day like it.
We hope, but we have no guarantee.
Another hope — a better hope — gives full assurance. “We have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf…” (Hebrews 6:19-20). The Bible tells of this hope that rests on the clear promises of God. This hope tethers the soul to heaven, a realm that cannot be penetrated by evil men.
“For to this end we toil and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially those who believe” (2 Timothy 4:10). Where have you set your hope?
Nero, a terrorist mastermind, was soon to unleash his fury against Christians when Peter wrote: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed at the last time” (1 Peter 1:3-5).
What is a Christian’s living hope? That bad men will not do something? No! That a good God will do something! Have you been born again to this living hope?
