Will Life on Earth End in 2012?
by Danny Boggs
We keep hearing that the calendar of the ancient Mayans ends with December 21, 2012. As that date approaches, the hysteria will swell. Expect to see more and more of it on the magazine covers as you stand in line at the grocery store. Already the History Channel and the Discovery Channel are running specials that capitalize on the intrigue. Scientists say that the earth is due for giant arc storms, asteroid impacts, colossal earthquakes, mega tsunamis and super volcanoes.
Life on earth is coming to an end. God planned it that way. “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed” (2 Peter 3:10). That day is fixed in permanent ink on God’s calendar. What day is it? “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only” (Matthew 24:36). It might come in 2012. It might come in 2112. It might come in 9112. It is coming, but it is coming like a thief.
We need to prepare — but not with flashlights, generators, bottled water, canned goods, and the like. Those will be utterly useless on the day of the Lord. Holiness and godliness are the supplies that not only prepare us but make us eager to see that day (2 Peter 3:11-12).
Life on earth ended today for 156,000 people. In the time it takes you to read this article, 162 people will die. You could be next.
Will you be ready for eternity when your life on earth ends? Jesus can make you ready.
