Can you imagine life in the Garden of Eden? It was a paradise like no other on earth. Everything was new and “very good.” The food was fantastic. The work was manageable. The only two people there were made for each other. The LORD God walked in the garden with them.
Enter the serpent and sin. That old serpent is the devil, Satan (Revelation 20:2). What is sin? Sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4). God had given Adam and Eve a number of positive responsibilities but only one prohibition: “But from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die” (Genesis 2:17).
How did Adam and Eve succumb? Eve blamed it on the tempting serpent. Adam blamed it on Eve and ultimately on God — “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.” Read more
